Carlsberg Italia has chosen to give its support to the most fragile people, supporting the service of "Food Distribution" managed by the Varese Committee of the Italian Red Cross, donating an economic fee equivalent to 2.000 packs of food, which will feed approximately 10.000 people.
Induno Olona, 20 April 2020 - Carlsberg Italia, at a time when the whole World is facing an unprecedented health, social and economic crisis, has chosen to give its support to the most fragile people, supporting the service of "Food Distribution" managed by the Varese Committee of the Italian Red Cross, donating an economic fee equivalent to 2.000 packs of food, which will feed approximately 10.000 people.
Carlsberg Italia has chosen to support the Varese area, with the aim to give back value to Community which has hosted its historic Brewery for over 140 years. In doing so, it confronted the local institutions, evaluating the support of projects aimed at concretely helping the weakest part of a population strongly affected by the current situation. Carlsberg Italia has thus decided to actively provide the "Food Distribution" service, one of the most important among those implemented by the Varese Committee of the Italian Red Cross to deal with the Covid-19 emergency, which consists in the purchase and free delivery of food to all those who are in critical economic conditions. A number of people in constant and dramatic growth due to the socio-economic situation caused by the emergency, also due to the fact that the usual support networks, such as the daily canteen service, are not active due to health restrictions.
"In a difficult moment like the one we are experiencing, it seems right to us to give back to the Community, that has welcomed us for over 140 years, concrete help, as per our Company's philosophy," said Alexandros Karafillides Managing Director of Carlsberg Italia. “We have therefore decided to support the Varese Committee of the Italian Red Cross, reaching out to people in difficulty, which unfortunately we know are constantly increasing. Carlsberg Italia decision is part of the action plan to tackle the health emergency undertaken by the Carlsberg Group, which recently donated 13 million Euro to activate three specific research projects that will give institutions and the scientific Community important knowledge on Coronavirus, to implement useful measures to eradicate it and to give the world the opportunity to prevent future epidemics.

Already on the front lines for weeks to combat the Coronavirus health emergency (Covid-19), the Varese Committee of the Italian Red Cross has set up a social task force made up of about two hundred people who will support the population for at least ninety days offering food, medicines, psychological assistance and much more. From March, 14th in fact, the Varese Committee of the Italian Red Cross coordinates the Social Response Room located in Gazzada through which the necessary activities are prepared to deal with the Covid-19 emergency: the "Pronto Spesa", "Pronto Farmaco", “Telefono Gentile" services - aimed above all at the elderly and the sick, disabled, frail people, therefore all those who are forced to isolation and loneliness - and the " Food Distribution" activity dedicated to those in critical economic conditions. With these activities, the Varese Committee wants to strengthen its proximity to the citizens of Varese and the neighboring territories and at the same time contribute to limiting the heavy socio-health impact that the infections are generating.
